Marcalberto

Marcalberto winery stands as a pioneering and distinguished Piedmontese Maison, singularly devoted to crafting exceptional Traditional Method sparkling wines within the prestigious Alta Langa DOCG. Nestled amidst the high hills of Piedmont, their meticulously tended vineyards span the communes of Santo Stefano Belbo, Calosso, and Cossano Belbo, regions celebrated for their ideal viticultural conditions. This family-driven estate is skillfully managed by brothers Marco and Alberto Cane, who benefit immensely from the invaluable guidance of their father, Piero Cane, himself a renowned expert in the world of sparkling wine.

The majority of their vineyard plots are expertly planted with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, varieties chosen specifically for their suitability to the medium to high altitudes and the unique, highly favorable soils of the Alta Langa. Marcalberto's overarching philosophy is profoundly rooted in enhancing the inherent characteristics of this specific Alta Langa terroir, allowing the land to express itself authentically in every bottle. Their meticulous winemaking journey begins with soft, whole-bunch pressing of the grapes, followed by alcoholic fermentation predominantly in used French oak barrels. Crucially, their wines undergo extended aging on lees within their historic cellars, some dating back to the 1850s, a process that ensures natural clarification without the need for filtration. Marcalberto is particularly notable for producing pioneering sulphite-free Metodo Classico sparkling wines, a testament to their commitment to purity and natural expression. The result is a collection of vibrant, complex, and intensely aromatic Alta Langa sparkling wines characterized by an exquisite fine perlage, offering a true taste of this burgeoning Piedmont wine region and a testament to the Cane family's dedication to quality.
